Accessibility statement

Our commitment to accessible digital service at Element Carpentry | under Israeli law, IS 5568, and WCAG.

Last updated: 1 June 2026 | Last reviewed: 1 June 2026

Accessibility for all

We are committed to making the Element Carpentry website and digital services accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We follow the Equal Rights Act, service accessibility regulations, Israeli Standard 5568 (WCAG 2.0 AA), and work toward WCAG 2.1 AA. This document describes our status, on-site tools, and how to contact us.

Standards & built-in accessibility

The site was designed, built, and tested for Israeli Standard 5568 (WCAG 2.0 AA) and toward WCAG 2.1 AA, as far as practicable. This includes:

  • Semantic structure: headings, landmarks, form labels, and ARIA where needed.
  • Keyboard navigation, logical focus order, and visible :focus-visible states.
  • "Skip to main content" link at the top of every page (reachable via Tab).
  • Page language (lang) and text direction (RTL/LTR) follow the selected locale.
  • Zoom support up to 200% without loss of content (responsive layout + accessibility menu).
  • Improved colour contrast on key UI components, as far as practicable.
  • Respects prefers-reduced-motion where possible.
  • Compatibility with common screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) in modern browsers.

On-site accessibility menu

Every page includes a fixed accessibility button (bottom corner). It opens a settings menu; preferences are saved in your browser. The menu offers:

  • Floating accessibility menu on all site pages (fixed accessibility button).
  • Keyboard shortcuts: Alt+A or Alt+9 to open or close the menu.
  • Skip to main content from the menu and via the page-top skip link.
  • Quick report for accessibility issues (email to the coordinator).
  • Text size: 100%, 112%, 125%, 140%, 150%, 175%, and up to 200%.
  • Text alignment: default, start, centre, or end (respects page direction).
  • High contrast, dark mode, grayscale, reduced saturation, and colour invert.
  • Underline links, readable font, bold text, line spacing, and letter spacing.
  • Highlight headings, reading guide bar, large cursor, and hide decorative images.
  • Enhanced keyboard focus, stop animations, and mute audio/video.
  • Reset all settings, save preferences in the browser (localStorage), and short in-menu statement.

The menu complements built-in accessibility and does not replace responsibility for accessible source content.

Known limitations

Despite our efforts, gaps may remain:

  • Third-party content (maps, embedded video, social widgets, external chat) may not be fully accessible.
  • Downloadable files (PDF, etc.) may need separate adaptation | ask us for an alternative format.
  • Some older archived content may still be undergoing accessibility improvements.
  • Menu adjustments improve usability but do not replace professional audits of underlying content.

We work continuously to identify, prioritise, and fix reported issues.
